Reshoring Institute Announces State-By-State “Made in USA” Labeling Comparison

Single Site Where Companies Can Compare State and Federal Labeling Regulations

SILICON VALLEY, CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES, June 8, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ -- The Reshoring Institute https://reshoringinstitute.org today announced a single site where companies can go to compare state regulations regarding “Made in USA” labeling.

“Made in USA state and federal labeling regulations can be very confusing for manufacturers and assemblers,” said Rosemary Coates, Executive Director of the Reshoring Institute. “Many companies don’t know if they should follow local or national regulations. In addition, the federal definitions are subject to interpretation,” she said. “We know of no other single site that compares the state and federal regulations for every state to assist companies in making labeling decisions.”

Because of the confusion over federal vs. state requirements, the Reshoring Institute has developed an on-line resource to make it easier for companies to research the requirements state-by-state. Companies can click on each state here: https://reshoringinstitute.org/made-in-your-state/ to find the state and federal requirements.

“Most of the states follow the federal guidelines,” said Daisie Hobson, Director of Research at the Reshoring Institute. “The problem is, even the federal regulations are confusing, relying on a product’s bill of materials to determine the value of the American-made content.”

The Federal Trade Commission allows products to have the Made in USA label if the product components are “all or virtually all” domestically produced, and the final product assembly occurs in the U.S. Companies that simply assemble a product from foreign components cannot legally apply a “Made in USA” label.

The Reshoring Institute helps companies sort out the requirements and lawfully apply the correct label whether it is “Made in USA” or “Assembled in the USA” or a more detailed description. The Reshoring Institute website is fast becoming the first stop for companies that are trying to sort out the U.S. labeling requirements and start their reshoring projects.
