Eversley Takes Civic Type-R to Victory Lane at Lime Rock Park

  • Ryan Eversley scores season's second win for Honda Civic Type R
  • Eversley holds World Challenge Touring Car R Series points lead after six races
  • Honda Civic Si driver Tom O'Gorman scores third TCA victory in 2018

RealTime Racing driver Ryan Eversley continued to show the way in his Honda Civic Type-R at Lime Rock Park, scoring his second win of the year and claiming the lead in the Pirelli World Challenge TCR point standings at the season's halfway point.

Meanwhile, Honda driver Tom O'Gorman continued his hot start in his RealTime Racing Honda Civic Si, taking his third win of the year in the sixth round of TCA competition as part of a double podium finish in the weekend's two races.

TCR Eversley stormed to the pole in his RealTime Racing Honda Civic Type R in qualifying and went flag-to-flag for the second time this year while claiming victory in Saturday's opening event.  Eversley kept the hard-charging Mark Wilkins at bay throughout the early part of the race, and maintained his advantage over both Wilkins and his Bryan Herta Autosport teammate, Michael Lewis, en route to the win. Meanwhile, 2017 World Challenge GTS Rookie of the Year Adam Merzon returned with RealTime Racing and finished 11th in his Honda Civic Type R.

Eversley started second in Saturday's second race of the weekend, but wound up fourth, getting promoted a spot to that position after Jerimy Daniel was assessed a post-race penalty by the stewards.  Continuing to improve in his RealTime Racing Civic Type R, Merzon earned his first top-10 in TCR, finishing in 10th and on the lead lap.

TCA In the TCA class, it was another Honda in Victory Lane, as 2017 TCB class champion Tom O'Gorman claimed his third win of the PWC season in the Honda Civic Si during Saturday's sixth round. O'Gorman came from fourth on the starting grid to best Jeff Sexton's Subaru BRZ tS by 1.756 seconds and take the win, capping a double-podium weekend after he had placed second behind Eric Powell in the first race of the weekend.

Unlike the TCR Honda Civic Type R, where many racing components are incorporated with the production engine and chassis, World Challenge TC technical regulations require the car to be very close to the production version, with only minor safety and suspension changes allowed.

Video recaps from this weekend's Pirelli World Challenge races at Lime Rock Park are being posted on the "Honda Racing/HPD" YouTube channel. Produced by the Carolinas Production Group, the video packages can be found in the 2018 HPD Trackside Video Playlist at: https://www.youtube.com/HondaRacingHPDTV.

Quotes

Ryan Eversley (driver, #43 RealTime Racing Honda Civic Type R) 1st in TCR Round 5; 4th in Round 6 race: "The Honda Civic is a great car. Overall, I'm very happy with the result. I'm happy that there's a global BoP [Balance of Performance] and that it's not just [Pirelli World Challenge] results that dictate the BoP. It also shows what's happening in the World Touring Car series. We were able to show that the Honda Civic Type R is as capable as any other car out there. The whole point of this exercise is to sell Honda race cars and street cars. So if we're up front on the pole, leading every lap, and winning the race, that's a great day for the brand and a job well done for RealTime."

Tom O'Gorman (driver, #94 RealTime Racing Honda Civic Si) 2nd in TCA Round 5, winner of Round 6: [Following the Round 6 win] "This race could not have gone any more perfect for us. I got the jump on the start. When the TCR cars started coming through, my TCB experience kicked in and I basically knew how to manage the traffic a little better than the rest of the field. I got a big gap, and then each caution flag came out at the perfect time for me. I find the track challenging, because my weakness tends to be the long run with the front-wheel drive car. From the outside, I haven't been able to identify the weaknesses of the little sports cars, but I'm sure they have them and at this point in the season – around the halfway point – it's turning out to be an exciting season."
