How to Camp in Comfort at the Wildflower Triathlon

RV Camping or Tent Glamping at Lake San Antonio for the 2018 Wildflower Triathlon is Your Best Bet For This Major Triathlon Event

PASO ROBLES, CA , USA, January 25, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Wildflower, and lake water levels, are both back in 2018 after a one-year hiatus and record rains last year. Beginning May 4th through May 6th the “Woodstock” of triathlons will again come alive at Lake San Antonio, in Bradley California.

As in year’s past, the experienced management team (Colleen Busman and Terry Davis) at Tri Cal Events will be running the show, but this year brings in the new owners; Motiv Sports out of Denver, CO. And with the new owners comes all kinds of new energy and resources, including new camping options. It seems Wildflower will be roaring back with not much to quiet this party down for years to come.

Because Lake San Antonio is so remote, there just aren't many accommodation options; camping is it. The nearest hotel is an hour drive away in Paso Robles, CA. There are a few vacation rentals nearby but they are sparse. Besides, who doesn’t want to be where the action is? The party is on every night. So, this leaves one option for most; good old-fashioned camping, and Wildflower has that covered with pretty much unlimited space.

Now, many folks do prefer to “tent it”, and tenting is an option: Pitch a tent, roll out your bag and you’re camping. The obvious benefit to this option is the cost; it’s about as low as you can go when it comes to cost of accommodations. But assuming that most athletes, vendors, volunteers, clubs, and spectators want to camp in comfort, this article will focus on the other two “glamping” options.

First up, is RV Camping. By far the easiest and most available. If you own an RV, well you’re halfway there. Book your spot with the event coordinators at http://www.wildflowertriathlon.com/, drive to the event and set up camp. You avoid the cost of an RV Rental, but you still have to factor the fuel cost. At an average 8 mpg for most motorhomes, fuel is not a small expense.

If you don’t own an RV, you can try to borrow one, but if that idea falls through, and you still want to drive to the event in a motorhome, you can rent one! El Monte, Cruise America, and Road Bear are a few corporate RV Rental options, and Outdoorsy or RVShare are good options for the drivable “RV rental by owner”. RV owners listed on these websites let you drive their personal rig, and because they’re just trying to offset the high cost of owning a money pit, you can expect to save.

Now, if the thought of driving a big gas-guzzling box hundreds of miles down crowded freeways and windy roads is a bit too much, then consider the next two options: RV Rentals delivered, or a Bell Tent; both accommodation options are set up and ready when you arrive, torn down and hauled off when you leave.

RV Rentals Delivered (Delivery Option #1)

There are three viable options in the “delivered RV rentals” category, and all three are reasonable in terms of cost, comfort, and service. They all deliver, set up, and pick up, and they all offer units with refrigerators, stoves, bathrooms, and showers that sleep up to 8, yes in beds. Some even have air-conditioning and heating.

The first is RVPlusYou, an RV rental booking website, similar to Airbnb, but for RV’s. RVPlusYou specializes in delivered RV rentals by owner, and most RV owners not only deliver where you want it, they will also share their “stuff” with you: Camp chairs, patio mat, kitchen/bath essentials, linens/towels, BBQ, games, and even DVD's!

The second option is Getaway RV Rentals, a local RV rental company that delivers and also includes amenities such as chairs, camping patio mat, and outside table.

The third option is Tinker Tin, also a local company specializing in vintage trailer campers. Each unit comes with vintage outdoor awning, chairs, fresh linens and towels, mattresses, all cookware, games, and firewood.

The difference with Tinker Tin is that they include a package deal: Welcome 35th Anniversary wine, bottle champagne, VIP passes for two, Elite Meet and Greet, meals, happy hour each day and outerwear commemorative item. (includes camping and VIP festival passes for 2 adults and up to 2 youth).

Whichever way you go, you’ll get all the comforts of home in an RV, delivered and set up right at your campsite. You still have to get the campsite reservation from the event folks at Wildflower, but these two options cover the hard work and expense of towing, set up, and pick up.

RVPlusYou and Getaway Ave Cost: $145-$195/night, plus delivery (Around $150)

Tinker Tin Cost: $1,750/per couple (Thursday through Sunday) May 3rd check in, check out Sunday May 6th

Bell “Glamping” Tent (Delivery option #2)

New this year to Wildflower is the option to rent a luxury tent, set up at your campground and ready when you arrive. You’ll have one full size bed, side table, lantern, area rug, and two chairs set up and waiting. Compared to pitching your own tent, this is a definite step up, however you won’t have the same amenities as the RV; refrigerator, stove, running water, and a bathroom. But, it’s still “Glamping” and you don’t have to sleep in the dirt!

Ave Cost: $316/night, $950 total for 3 nights. Includes delivery and set up

Bottom line: Besides the step up in accommodation options, Motiv seems to be bringing in a lot of marketing muscle. According to a Slow Switch article on the buyout, the Tri-Cal management believes this year will be the best yet.

So, given this positive makeover with a continued emphasis on local traditions and spirit, it looks like Wildflower is truly back. If you haven’t experienced a triathlon sporting event on this scale before, 2018 will be the year to jump in. Time to make reservations and join the party!
