IKEA Australia has finalised the purchase of its Perth store site in Innaloo, following a settlement with GDI Property Group on the acquisition of 6 Sunray Drive.
The transaction grants IKEA Australia ownership of the land and buildings that house its Innaloo store, including four peripheral buildings currently leased to external tenants.
The company says the investment reflects its long-term commitment to the Western Australian market and provides a stable foundation for future growth.
IKEA Perth is one of the highest performing locations in the country, both in terms of foot traffic and sales performance.
“This milestone purchase enables us to build on the deep connection we already have
with our Innaloo customers and community and supports us in reaching even more of the many people of Western Australia in the years to come,” said Mirja Viinanen, IKEA Australia CEO and Chief Sustainability Officer.
“Ownership opens the door to making new improvements to our home, finding efficiencies within our physical space and installing infrastructure to support our omnichannel growth and bold sustainability goals.”
Over the coming months, IKEA will assess potential upgrades at the site. These may include the installation of rooftop solar PV panels, electric vehicle chargers for delivery fleets, and the transition to renewable-powered heating and cooling, all part of the company’s broader efforts to reduce its operational climate footprint.
IKEA Perth, which opened in 2008, currently welcomes an average of 40,000 in-store visitors per week, with an additional 2,800 customers shopping online or remotely bringing total annual visits to over 2 million.
The store recorded the highest sales growth of any IKEA location in Australia in the past year. In FY24, IKEA Perth achieved a 10 per cent year-on-year increase in volume sold and recorded the highest daily turnover in IKEA Australia’s history.
Meanwhile, IKEA Cannington Plan & order point, which opened in February 2024, has become the best-performing location of its kind in the country.
