A cloudy, windy, wet weekend for Alaska

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - A large area of low pressure is poised to dominate the weekend weather for the entire state of Alaska. The first full weekend of May will bring less than stellar weather to the Great Land.

Strong winds will prevail from the Aleutian Chain to the west and across much of mainland areas. Gambell could see north winds to 40 mph, with gusts to 60 mph.

Flood watches and advisories continue, as break-up season on the state’s river systems continues. A bit of winter will be seen and felt over the central and eastern Beaufort Sea coasts and inland. A winter weather advisory goes through the weekend, calling for 2-3 inches of snow and gusts to 40 mph.

The active pattern rides all the way through the weekend, so no extended clearing or sunshine to count on.

Hot spot was Wrangell in southeast Alaska, with 72 degrees.

Cold spot goes to Anaktuvuk Pass, where temperatures dropped to 1 degree below zero!
