MORRISVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) — Following the relocation of Breeze Airways and Sun Country Airlines to Terminal 1 last month, another airline is switching terminals at Raleigh-Durham International Airport.

Alaska Airlines is moving from Terminal 2 to Terminal 1 beginning May 8.

“The move is being made to maximize gate space in both terminals, accommodate airline needs and prepare for continued growth as RDU adds new airlines and destinations and sets new passenger traffic records,” the airport said in a release.

Alaska operates just one route in the whole state of North Carolina — between RDU and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA), the airline’s primary hub.

The Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority says no more airline terminal relocations are anticipated in the near future. With the addition of Alaska Airlines, a total of six carriers will fly out of Terminal 1.

The airport says signs throughout the property, including on roads and in the parking lots and deck, will be updated to inform travelers about the change. Passengers who mistakenly go to Terminal 2 can walk through the central parking deck and get to Terminal 1 in about five minutes.
