Location: Tampa, Florida

Price: $5.49 million

This updated five-bedroom contemporary in a South Tampa neighborhood known as Bayshore Beautiful has a newly built poolside retreat with fountains, a detached two-story gym overlooking the pool, a sunken entertainment deck and a new media room with a wet bar.

“It’s definitely a unique house, especially for South Tampa,” said listing agent Jennifer Fuddy, of Smith & Associates Real Estate. “From the outside it almost looks like a castle, but it’s very contemporary on the inside.”

The home is owned by Tampa race car driver Jason Bell, who races under the Aston Martin racing brand, she said. Mr. Bell recently won the St. Petersburg Grand Prix in his class and is the 2021 GT America GT4 Champion.

Mr. Bell bought the house four years ago and put in almost $1.7 million in updates and renovations, including redoing the backyard pool and decking area, adding a generator and new lighting and HVAC systems, Ms. Fuddy said. He also redid the third floor to create a media/game room with a wet bar.

Sliding glass doors from both the kitchen and the family room open to the pool area.

From the front door, the foyer opens into the formal living room, which features a fireplace and a two-story ceiling. This floor also holds an en-suite bedroom, an office, a formal dining room, a mudroom, a family room and a kitchen with a tucked-away butler’s pantry.

“The house was really built for entertaining,” Ms. Fuddy said. “Caterers could come in from the garage, through the mudroom and right into the butler’s pantry.”

The previous owner hired a designer to completely redo the kitchen, she said. It features double islands, custom wood cabinets imported from Paraguay, marble countertops and Wolf and Sub-Zero appliances.

Sliding glass doors from both the kitchen and the family room open to the pool area.

Spiral stairs lead up to the upstairs primary bedroom suite, which features a grand entrance, a kitchenette, a walk-in closet and a large bathroom with a soaking tub.

The 8,525-square-foot house has five bedrooms, six full bathrooms and three partial bathrooms. It sits on a 0.28-acre lot.

Neighborhood Notes

This home on West Fair Oaks Avenue is “one house in from Tampa’s iconic Bayshore Boulevard, so you still have a nice view of Hillsborough Bay, but you don’t have the traffic and the noise,” Ms. Fuddy said.

The house is also near MacDill Avenue, which has restaurants and boutique shops, she said. It’s a 10-minute drive to downtown Tampa and 20 minutes to Tampa International Airport.
