Henderson Police: 8 officers gun down suspect in ‘violent armed robbery’

Eight officers opened fire on an armed suspect Saturday morning after a short foot pursuit near Auto Show Drive, according to Henderson Police.

Joshua David Works, 26, who was being sought in a “violent armed robbery” hours earlier, died at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds, the Clark County Coroner’s Office said.

Police on Monday identified the officers, who were hired between 2005 and 2017. They were wearing body cameras, but footage hadn’t been released this afternoon.

Officers first responded about 2 a.m. to a Henderson neighborhood where someone reported the robbery, police said.

Police later encountered Works near Boulder Highway and Texas Avenue. He was in a car that’d been described during the robbery, and officers had attempted a traffic stop, police said.

But he fled and a 3 ½ mile vehicle pursuit ensued and ended on Gibson and Trail Canyon roads, where Works got out of the vehicle, police said.

After a “short” foot pursuit, the officers opened fire when Works brandished a gun about 4:50 a.m., police said.

The officers who fired their weapons are Andrw Avanessian; Justin Chronister; Robert Hollingsworth; Joschua Loftis; Luke Good; Nicklaus Hamby; Michael Stevens and Michael Mayle, police said. They were placed on routine paid administrative leave.

On Monday police said the shooting remained under investigation and further information would not be available.

This was the third officer-involved shooting involving Henderson officers in 2018.
