Telangana Industries Minister KT Rama Rao, who is touring Japan to attract investments, met with Suzuki Motors patriarch Osamu Suzuki and sought his support in developing the last-mile connectivity for Hyderabad Metro rail with electric vehicles.

The Minister outlined some of the initiatives of the State government and its efforts to improve urban mobility through the metro rail project.

Industrial policies During the meeting with the 88-year-old Chairman of Suzuki Corporation, the minister explained the Telangana government’s industrial policies and TS-iPASS, a single-window clearance initiative for investors. He also highlighted the opportunities for automobile investors in the State.

Rao wanted Suzuki Corporation to consider investing the State and also sought the Chairman’s support to launch Suzuki electric vehicles for Hyderabad Metro last-mile connectivity. The Japanese automotive major is working on the coming wave of future mobility.

The delegation included NVS Reddy, Managing Director of Hyderabad Metro Rail Ltd.

During the meeting with Governor of Shizuoka Kavatasu Heita, the Minister outlined various opportunities for investments in the State. Indian Ambassador to Japan Sujan Chinoy facilitated some of the interactions. The Suzuki patriarch, who is credited with developing the company brand globally and in India over the past 3-4 decades, and still retaining nearly 50 per cent market share in India, took keen interest in the Hyderabad Metro project, explained through a power point presentation. The delegation also visited the Suzuki Museum at Hamamatsu in Shizuoka.
