CHENNAI: In yet another push towards the government’s intent to walk the talk on electric mobility mission, Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) on Sunday announced the launch of an electric vehicle charging station at a petrol pump at Nagpur in Maharastra.

“Nagpur, being the first city to introduce the electric public transportation model in India, has added one more feather to its cap by adding the first electric charging station at Indian Oil’s COCO (company-owned, company-operated) fuel station in the city,” IOC said in a release.

To set up the charging station, IOC has partnered with cab aggregator Ola. “As India’s leading oil refiner and marketer, IndianOil considers promoting ecological sustainability as part of its core business, this partnership with Ola is the right step forward as we re-imagine how India will commute in the coming years.

We applaud Ola for building the electric vehicle eco-system from a nascent stage in Nagpur and are happy to partner with them in their efforts,” said IOC executive director (Maharashtra) Murali Srinivasan.
In its annual report for 2016-17 presented earlier this year, IOC had said it would set up battery charging stations and was exploring the manufacture and retailing of lithium-ion batteries.
