Electric vehicles in India: IndianOil – Ola launches charging station in Nagpur

Government owned Oil company, IndianOil along with cab aggregator Ola has inaugurated its first electric charging station at one of the company owned fuel station in Nagpur. Nagpur, being first city to introduce Electric Public Transportation Model in India, has added one more feather to its cap by adding the first Electric Charging Station at IndianOil’s COCO fuel station in the city.

Murali Srinivasan, IndianOil’s Executive Director, Maharashtra State Office commented, “As India’s leading oil refiner and marketer, IndianOil considers promoting ecological sustainability as part of its core business. Thus, this partnership with Ola is the right step forward as we re-imagine how India will commute in the coming years. We applaud Ola for building the Electric Vehicle eco-system from a nascent stage in Nagpur and are happy to partner with them in their efforts. EVs have the ability to solve some of the key issues we are currently facing with respect to vehicular pollution and air quality; and as a large-scale mobility platform, Ola can bring about a catalytic change.”

Indian government is betting big on electric mobility and aims at mass shift towards electric vehicles by 2030. Recently, state run EESL too had floated a tender to procure 10,000 electric cars for government offices which was bagged by Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra. EESL has also confirmed another 10,000 electric cars procurement in 2018. Rising pollution in Delhi/NCR has also seen advancing the availablity of BSVI fuel in the capital from April 2020 to April 2018.

Government owned oil refineries were in the process of being upgraded for the production of BSVI compliant fuel and a massive investment of Rs 30,000 crore. S M Vaidya, General Manager, IndianOil Corporation Mathura Refinery had earlier said, “Though the government has set a very stringent target for meeting BS VI standard fuel quality, the Mathura refinery has completed the target ahead of the set deadline,”.
